To help the development of the local communities in 2001 we established Holcim Prize to acknowledge those initiatives of local NGOs and institutions, which the environment or the local communities can benefit from.

Holcim Hungária Home Foundation
It is important for us to support the underprivileged people nationwide, and to develop their living circumstances. We established the Holcim Hungária Home Foundation in 2004 to help the house–building projects of the local municipalities and this way to help underprivileged families to find their homes.

Egymás mellett – newsletter
The constant dialogue with those who live in the neighborhood of our plants is important for us. We inform those who live in the surroundings of our cement plants in Hejőcsaba and Lábatlan about the news of our plants and the region in our newsletter called Egymás mellett (Next to each other).
We organized the Environmental and cleaning days in Lábatlan and in Miskolc for the forth time, on which several thousands of children participated together with their teachers. During these environmental actions we clean the squares, parks and streets of Miskolc and Lábatlan from the waste illegally put-down. In 2006 we expanded the campaign to Nyergesújfalu and in 2007 to Bajót, too. WWF Hungary has joined us when starting the program. They organize quizzes for the children on the Environmental and cleaning days.

Emission monitoring system
We have placed a monitor in December 2006 at the entrance of our cement plant in Hejőcsaba that shows the actual emissions of the plant. The display has an online connection to the emission monitoring system at the kiln stack this way the inhabitants and the authorities can see the actual data at any time.
A Community Advisory Panel has been established from the representatives of the local community living around the area where we intend to built our new cement plant in Nyergesújfalu. The members of the panel receive information about the preparation and status quo of the building on regular basis, and can provide that the new plant will be acceptable also for inhabitants of the region with their suggestions and comments. According to our plans, the members of the panel will have consulting rights after the plant has already been built up, they will have the opportunity to enter the plant at any time and they will be able to look at the emission data of the plant.
